Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama completed a working visit to Ouagadougou on Monday, aimed at enhancing economic and security collaboration between Ghana and Burkina Faso, according to the Burkinabe presidency. In a joint press conference with Burkinabe leader Ibrahim Traore, Mahama underscored several cooperative projects in aviation and energy. These initiatives include plans for a gas pipeline and improved electricity supply to Burkina Faso. Both leaders stressed the importance of deepening bilateral relations, focusing on economic integration and counterterrorism efforts.Mahama announced the prospective development of a gas pipeline stretching from Accra to Bolgatanga, with potential extensions to Burkina Faso. Additionally, he mentioned that a Ghanaian airline plans to introduce daily direct flights between Accra and Ouagadougou, which would further solidify their connection. On the security front, Mahama called for unified efforts against terrorism, describing it as a "cancer" that requires coordinated action. He also introduced initiatives to facilitate cross-border trade, such as easing the transit of Burkinabe goods through Ghanaian corridors. The discussions between the two leaders also covered regional dynamics in the Sahel as Mahama concluded a three-nation tour, which included Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. This tour aimed to strengthen ties between the Sahel States Alliance (AES) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) after the AES formally left ECOWAS in January.
